Moore Golf Announcement
|
|
Moore Golf announcement - When we formalised our Strategic Plan last year, one of the concerns with members was that the club did not have a presence at the Pro shop. There was a concern that visitors may not be paying green fees. The club did not have a welcoming feeling when golfers arrived. It would be great if we could attract a Pro or have someone man the shop and keep an eye on things.
- Today I am delighted to announce that the Timaru Golf Club has entered into an agreement with Willie Moore of Moore Golf Cromwell to once again operate a retail and coaching business from the Timaru Golf Club Pro shop.
- Willie will start operating as from Saturday 6th He will be employing a young man Jonny Mackay to work the shop for 5 days and is looking for a part timer to work the two days Jonny has off. Jonny will be up next week to play on Saturday and meet members.
- On the 6th July we want to have a huge open club day to welcome not only Moore Golf but all our new members that have joined the club over the last year. Keep the day free as there is a lot planned for the day and night.
- Willie will be known to some of you from your visits to Cromwell. An impressive young man who is a NZ PGA Professional who runs a very good business and is very keen to replicate his success at the Timaru Golf Club.
- Willie will offer specialised club fitting, golf lessons by appointment. He will have for hire some motorised golf carts, quality hire clubs and trundlers. Members will be able to buy buckets of practice balls on Wednesday and Saturday, outside these days members may use their own balls if you can be bothered picking them up or buy buckets of balls.
- Moore Golf will have sole rights to offer coaching on the course which will mean Matt Davis will no longer have access unless by arrangement with Moore golf.
- The only cost to the club is we need to run a new cable to the cart shed and we may be up for a share in the cost of a new till system. We can squeeze four carts into the shed and each day the Moore Golf carts will be removed and parked by the shop for hire.
- The committee thought this was an exciting opportunity and had the chance of meeting Willie last week and were impressed with him
- We think this move ticks the box of our Strategic Goal and I hope the club get in behind Willie and Jonny and help make this a very successful partnership.

Golf Hub
|
Golf Hub I know many members are wanting to know what is happening with the Golf Hub proposal This week we have applied for charitable Trust status for a new trust that will progress the Hub. The trust has appointed 6 directors, Graham Cadigan, Rosie Carruthers, Allan Booth, Graeme Bennet, John Cannell and Harvey King. Highfield Golf Club had their last day of playing the full 18 hole course today and will hand back the top holes to the council. The Trust will start working with Highfield as to how it will be best to further develop the Highfield course on line with the Hub and work out costs. The current lease on Highfield runs to August 2020 plus there will be drainage work to be carried out by the TDC. This will take time to sort out so our club will just continue on as normal. Willie Moore is very excited about the prospect of the Hub and the potential to grow the game in South Canterbury. Harvey King President |
