2020/21 Subscriptions

At the club information meeting on the 22nd September there was a good discussion on the cost of running the golf club and how that should be reflected in our annual subscriptions. There was a unanimous consensus that as a club we have to increase our subscriptions across the various categories.

It was decided that we would not continue applying a discount for prompt payment, and increase the 18 and 9 hole membership $10. There was some discussion that we should charge a fee for late payment. We will monitor this and I am sure members will still continue to pay their accounts promptly and this will not be necessary.

There was discussion about the rather heavily discounted rate for members 20 – 40 years. The younger members at the meeting felt that they were being given an unfair advantage over full paying members. We have tried to strike a balance of trying to encourage younger members but not to give them an over discounted rate. We have reduced the age categories to 20-30 and 31 – 35. The 20 -30 year will now be $400 around 60% of the full subscription and 31 -35 $500 around 70% of the full subscription.

The Associate members have also had a small increase to $300.00, and we feel this still represents good value for people who wish to play at the course on a regular basis.

There are some small changes to other categories and we have streamlined and deleted some categories.

The meeting felt that even with these small changes our subscriptions were still very good value when you consider the quality of the course we have to play on, and what golfers in other areas pay.

Regards

Harvey King

President.

Thank you
This is Ian's last newsletter.
Next week the newsletter will be written by our new Secretary, Steve Compton.
As departing members, Kerrie and I want to thankyou for your friendship and for your good wishes upon our departure.
We have thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Timaru Golf Club and we totally admire the many volunteers who regularly and willingly give feely of their time to ensure the smooth running of our Club. The hours that our many volunteers give is impressive.
To our greens team the course is a huge credit to you and due to the many hours you spend every week, preparing and grooming our course. Our 9 hole men weekly working bees clear the rubbish and remove excess foliage. The ladies on a Monday night with the 6's guarantee a number of new members. Crusher and Cath run a brilliant twilight competition throughout the summer months so that our Clubhouse is full on Thursday nights. For years Fred has kept our clubrooms running and kept the bar stocked. Club Captains and Match Committees keep our competitions running smoothly. Together we have an awesome group of volunteers who week after week make significant contributions without fuss. A huge thank you to you all.
We acknowledge the ongoing generosity of Graeme and Susan Brown to our Club.
We also want to acknowledge the significant contribution made by our President, Harvey King. Harvey puts in huge hours and does not ask anyone to do something he is not prepared to do himself. His support for us in our roles of Secretary and Treasurer has been greatly appreciated. We look forward to hearing that another Club member will now offer to take on the role of President in the coming season. Likewise your Club needs a treasurer - this doesn't have to be a playing member it could also be a member's partner. Lindsay Hewitson has generously offered to step in until a treasurer is found but please offer to take your turn and not simply leave it to Lindsay. A Club is strong when every member takes turns to share the load.
It is really important that all members do not take our volunteers for granted as without them we simply would not have a viable club.
We look forward to returning to play our course during the year
Kind regards
Ian Poulter & Kerrie Cady
