A thank you to the Wednesday crowd
|
I received this message this afternoon, and thought you all might like to see it: "To start our holiday heading south from Rangiora we booked a round of golf at the Timaru club on the morning of Wednesday 6th January. We would like to thank the Wednesday field that started their competition late morning for allowing us to play through and making us so welcome. We thoroughly enjoyed our round and hope to return sometime. Thank you again to the club and it’s members for such a lovely start to our holiday. We are both involved in the management of the Rangiora Golf Club and hope our club members are equally welcoming to visitors.
Harry and Rose Rutledge" |

...and finally
|
Firstly I would like to add my personal congratulations to our new El Presidente, Mark Hervey, it's not an easy role, and I wish him well. Secondly, I would like to congratulate Timaru Golf Club on holding an election without anyone succumbing to the urge to resort to insurrection, violence, wandering around half naked covered in paint chanting "Tim-a-ru!", storming the clubhouse, sedition or shouting "Stop the Steal!". Now, admittedly, one could argue that there is slightly less at stake in our election (I stress the 'slightly'), but nonetheless, it's nice to be part of a club leading the world in undisputed, transparent and secure Presidential Elections - no-one can argue that democracy is dead at Timaru GC. It was, however, not quite the perfect election. Indeed, I am sorry to say that there was an attempted coup at the club yesterday. I appreciate this may come as a shock to the majority of you, but I am sad to report that a certain, cheeky Scotsman, with ideas above his station, felt the need to buck the system by pinching my parking space. The Battle of Bannockburn was over 700 years ago, and seeing as that was the last time the Skirt Wearers were able to put one over on the Southern Softies, I am willing to let it slide this time. Just this once though, do it again George, and next time, you can have the duties that go with the parking space. Speaking of the car park, it’s been great to be back at the club and playing again, but I can’t help but notice an extremely flash bit of kit has started appearing there. It’s not the latest Ping Driver (the G1,000,000 XLSFP or whatever the latest model happens to be), no, it’ a very, very (and let me just add for emphasis) very nice drive instead (which probably cost about the same as the latest Ping Driver). I do feel it my responsibility to point out that, yes, Tony, you have a fantastic car, and yes we all admire your obvious business acumen, and you are also a great golfer and a nice guy, however, every time anyone turns up in an Aston Martin (other flash cars are available), and I mean this is the nicest possible way, everyone else hates the driver of said flash car, just that little bit more (ok, maybe we are all just a teensy bit jealous - it is a really nice bit of kit). Changing tack, it's good to see that, after lulling the opposition into a false sense of security, the Brits have finally shown up for the sailing. Sorry. As you can no doubt tell, it's a quiet time of year for golf. The biggest golfing story of the last week was that the PGA of America have cancelled the contract with the Trump Organisation to host the PGA Tournament in 2022. The Tangerine Toddler Tantrum (or "Tan-Trump") Machine was understandably upset at this, and is (obviously) going to sue everyone involved. That is, after someone else picks up all his toys and puts them back in his pram. Stay safe, and play well everyone, and I look forward to seeing you all out there Steve |
