A Message from the Match Committee
Course etiquette

When getting ready to play golf please be aware of those teeing off & keep the noise down.

Slow Play

If your group has lost a hole or more on the group in front please endeavour to speed up because you are probably holding up those behind. It can be as simple as teeing off on the next hole as soon as you have putted.

Thank you

Next week final qualifying round & Stroke Play.

If you are unable to play final of Club Champs on Saturday 29th May please let me know so we don’t put you in draw.

A Message from the Grounds Team
The Grounds Team has requested that all players please repair their own pitch-marks on the greens

For those new to the game, or those needing a reminder, please copy/paste the link below for a tutorial/reminder on the best way to repair the mark, giving the green the best chance of recovery:

A lot of work goes into maintaining our greens, and it is a shame to see that work wasted.

Thanks

Ian Poulter's replacement
It is nice to see that Ian ensured that his replacement at Bluestone School recognised the requirement to join our club.

Please join me in welcoming Darren Smith to the Club, I look forward to trading war stories about trying to pick up where Ian left off.

...and finally
A little late this week, well it is a long weekend, and the alcohol yesterday might have robbed me of a wee bit of inspiration this morning

I have thought about falling back on the old chestnut of the weather - it has been topsy-turvy this week, we had the fire on for the first time this year, and now it feels like you are standing in the firing line of a giant hairdryer when you go outside.

Then I thought that I might do a prelude to the Masters that starts on Thursday, returning to it's usual Springtime slot, the course manicured to within an inch of it's life. As a side note the greens at Augusta generally run at about 12 feet on the Stimpmeter (the average for the US PGA Tour is 11) , although drying out during the day can speed them up to 15 feet.

The average "Moonie" (meaning Municipal or public) course in the US tend to run at about 9 feet.  I have been lucky enough to play on fast greens (they were running at 15), and they are both terrifying and brilliant - not only to you have to work hard on your putting, but you have to challenge yourself to getting the ball to the right spot on the greens too - never be above the hole on fast greens!
Bringing it back to our club, I thought I would take this opportunity to welcome or new caterer, Lara (or possibly Lana or Laura; Freddie doesn't seem to be too sure - hint, it is Lara) to the club.  It is great to have service with a smile, and the food's good too.

Finally, this week I had the pleasure of playing with our patron, Nevis Jones, still going strong and swinging as smoothly as ever.  Nevis pulled his usual trick of asking for a spotter to keep an eye on the direction of his drives, but as they were nearly all down the middle of the fairway, this is never a difficult task

There was some comment around the fact that his drives were noticeably straighter than his driving of a golf cart, but it was great to see him out there, enjoying the course with the rest of us.

That's all for this week, I am off to chase the laundry round the garden

Stay safe, and play well

Steve
