This ever popular event relies on your participation so get a partner and make your entry. We have a good list of generous sponsors but would welcome firms or persons willing to contribute. The cost is $300 dollars (including GST) with this amount treatable as a donation for tax exemption. Club Uniforms
Hi All Cub Members, The club has been long crying out to have a uniform in our club colours. After many months of hard work by a small committee they have at last found our colour and hey Presto they have come up with some up to date designs etc etc. I think they look great, a set in sleeve, small logo of the gorgeous white Heron on the front and at the back. Timaru Golf Club discreetly on the sleeve. ( all done in white sublimated) Looking at a Zip or buttoned top very styley and both men and women seem to be in agreement on the fabric. The women want the zip front but they will do a button front but you would need 10 people wanting button fronts. You can have different sleeve lengths in 4 cm lots. The women will have a small split and scooped hemline. They are going to make a sample up and then send sizes out to try .All polos will be unisex style. This is your chance to have your input either give me a ring or pop in to agree, disagree or generally consult. Price roughly at this stage $55.00 numbers dependent. Also there is a wonderful jumper $150.00 .This is Merino but may not be necessarily repeatable but if that is the case we can always get black or maybe buy some of the fabric. For the jersey Glowing Sky don't make the jade for men but if there was a big enough order ( 20 ) they would make a merino and the cost would be the same $150 but Xcm would have to do the embroidery an extra cost.. Oh Timaru Golf Club will look quite the Fashion piece and will definately stand out as winners Re the attached photo ignore any lines that arent white as they are crease lines. Cheers Cath |

...and finally
Where shall we go this week? Well the obvious destination is the Olympics where NZ are doing brilliantly despite the ongoing masked restrictions (as are GB, sorry, a little bit of partisanship is good for the soul). I could also comment on the fact that I have now been properly indoctrinated into the mindless drones of Bill Gates as I had my first Covid jab this week (buy Microsoft now) Then there was the great scoring this week, making a mockery of my previous comments around golf being a summer sport. On top of that, we have the pennants result today where I personally returned to my usual form of scoring nil points, but at least we won as a team (down with facebook). Thanks to Schrades and Intermediate Champ Kevin Leary (well he should win really, shouldn't he) who closed out his match with a 40 yard chip in apparently - breaking the hearts of the opposition in a bottom of the table clash to see who could best avoid the semi's trip to Methven (nothing against Methven, I should point out ('boooo Google!')). Of course this week is, and should be, dominated by the Olympics, and I have been particularly drawn to the internal struggles of possibly the greatest gymnast the world has ever seen, Simone Biles. Ignoring the fact that her surname relates to one of the "humors" deemed so fascinating to medical officianado's with an unhealthy leaning towards leeches of centuries past - it is refreshing to see that the world's very best athletes are now able to feel comfortable enough to speak publicly about the state of their mental health. Like all of us, I have been touched by this personally and within my family, and whereas a mere ten years ago the subject was deemed taboo by western culture, regardless of the impact that it had, indeed has, on all of us regardless of whether we care to admit it to all and sundry, it is heartening to see that we are advancing as a society enough to be able to recognise the impact it does have. Of course we play a sport which has since inception, recognised that the power of the mind is key to performance, but even so, we tend to only take note of the positive impacts of the right mindset, ignoring the potentially devastating effects of the alternative - condemning losers to the epithet of not "being 'strong' enough" - ignoring the fact that they would have been mental Hercules to just get to a position to be in contention in the first place. Golf has even provided the world with a term that we all fear, a catch all that brings out a cold sweat for anyone looking to perform under any form of pressure, the dreaded "yips". A negative mindset, or self-doubt of any kind, can be completely devastating and have utterly destructive consequences, and to those who mock and deride those people strong enough to show their frailties, I have nothing but pity for you. To those with the courage to confront their inner demons and acknowledge their struggles, I salute you. So the next time you are standing over a testing 6 footer, regardless of the circumstances, remember that you are never alone. We have all been there, and whether or not you hear the rattle of the ball dropping, we are with you, as are all of the golfers who have preceded you and will inevitably follow you. Stay safe, stay mentally well, and I look forward to seeing you all out there Steve |
