Club Captain's Comment
The Bristol Cup was held successfully on Wednesday in fine conditions - a big thank you to Lindsay Hewitson for running this for the club.

Congratulations to Jimmy Annett on his solo win of the Jackpot Hole on Saturday.  Won in style.

The holes in the fairway and rough that you would have seen on holes 1-4 on Saturday will be replicated over the course in the next few days.  We've got placings on fairways but you can also place to take relief if they affect you in the rough.  Use your common sense and advise your opponent if playing club champs matches.

Stokeplay - congratulations to the winners, only 8 players stuck it out through some tough weather and completed all three rounds.  Winners were;

Senior                T. Cook          222
Intermediate       P. Collins       253
Junior A              J. Norton       255
Junior B             R. Miller         281

Sixes
Sixes
Now that daylight saving has ended so has the sixes season. The closing night an ambrose followed by 15 of us going to the Bullock Bar. During the season we have seen fluctuating numbers from 7- 35 averaging about 20 most nights until Covid hit. Many have joined as members and placed somwhere in our golfing system where they are comfortable. ( If you are still unsure where you can go contact me, Morna or Lynda Brown who is club captain.) I would like to thank Peter Hayes who has taken coaching sessions every Monday and those who have willingly assisting in helping with my main helpers being -Morna Hogan, Lois Beattie, Raelene Bleeker, Carol Rodden and of course the young energetic Tom Wilson (Aorangi Development Officer ) though there were others who have helped when asked .Thank-you.Also a big thank you to the barman who have helped out during the season-Mike, Mark, Lindsay, Fred.
During the Winter we intend meeting once a month and playing some competition, coaching or whatever. The first one is Sunday May 22 so please mark it in your diary. All those past and present sixes and extra mates will be welcome.
cheers Cath Preen

...and finally
Apologies for my tardiness, I got caught up int he Women's World Cup Final yesterday evening, and frankly that was more exciting than my secretarial duties.

I suppose I must congratulate Australia on a fantastic performance (that physically hurts), to be fair they really were fantastic and deserved winners - they are an amazing sports team and have an astonishing record (they have won something like 65 out of their last 65 games - ridiculous).

Well done to to the England Ladies team who showed considerably more calm under pressure than the better paid Men seem to be able to achieve.

Overall it was a great tournament with some really exciting matches and some high quality cricket

Anyway excuses over and done with, it's been an interesting week at the club with the Bristol Cup on Wednesday (congrats to Gleniti) and the final round of the Club Champs qualifying on Saturday.  The format on Wednesday is Foursomes in the morning and a net medal in the afternoon - my fitness (that's a laugh) tracker had me down as walking nearly 20km on Wednesday as we played 36 holes, which includes the time spent hunting for my partner's tee shot on the 2nd hole when he put me in a tree (literally) - thanks Tim

Personally, I played well on Wednesday, and then followed it up on Saturday with one of the worst rounds I have ever played at Timaru - losing 4 balls and no real understanding of what the hell I wasd doing differently,  It might have had something to do with being stabbed in the arm the day before (flu jab, nothing more serious).  Or it might have had something to do with the early start ditated by having to work in the afternoon.  Combined with the leaving drinks I partook of the evening before perhaps?  Maybe they might have had something to do with it - whatever it was, I was duly punished for having the temerity of expecting to play well for a change - stupid game

This week sees the Masters being played at Augusta, Georgia, with the pictures of perfect fairways, lightening fast greens, bunkers, water hazards, flower displays and outstanding golf - it is one of the game's great events and fascinating to watch the players maneuver themselves into contention for 63 holes before the pressure cooker of the last 9 holes on Sunday evening

Good luck to all the players, particularly the one's in my Chipping Forecast Team, and I am off to try and work out how to play this sport (again)

Stay safe, and play well
