We are in a sort of wierd limbo in our house as we wait the inevitable arrival of the Covid
I mention this as my son is genuinely suffering from all the appropriate symptoms at the moment, and the good lady, the Pharmacist-her-indoors thinks that it is likely to be Covid, but the tests so far have all been negative (she does seem to enjoy shoving the swab into the back of my skull a bit too much for my liking).
It does feel strange though, for over 2 years, we have lived alongside the threat of this disease, one that has literally stopped us from living our normal lives on a number of occasions (it seemed to conincide with perfect golfing weather with a wonderful sensse of irony), prevented us from seeing family overseas in person, instead relying on the far less satisfying medium of a small pixelated screen instead.
During those two years, the South Island in particular seemed to view the disease as a distant event, something that happened to everyone else. Still, the talk was of it arriving eventually, and when it did, we would suck it up, struggle on with that indomnitable spirit and crack on through it.
Regardless of your political persuasion, the facts remain that the plan of the government was to let the disease in eventually, it was unavoidable, but it would be let in on their terms - ie once we were all resembling pin cushions and had been fully jabbed/vaccinated/boosted etc.
Still, the inevitability of actually getting it, feels surreal - after all, we (& I am referring to my own house here) haven't had it yet and it has been nearly 2 and half years since it first came to light in China.
Regardless, it'll be bloody inconvenient when it does come along, but when it does I trust that it impacts you with as little of it's potency as possible, and that you feel better soon - and when you do feel better, remember to make the most of our course, see your mates, and enjoy yourselves.
I'm off to tend to a miserable 10 year old, and I look forward to seeing you all out there again soon
