That was the week that was the week commencing 12 October 2020
Well, what a week, indeed.

Firstly, a huge thank you to all the volunteer greenkeeping staff who continue to care for our course and put in the hours this week to ensure that the course continues to be the excellent facility we all get to enjoy.

Going onto this weeks results, obviously we were running a restricted calendar, but we were able to get competitions in at the weekend (see below for the results)

The Men ran an International Stableford Competition, and I think it is fair to say that never, in the history of golf, have so many players ever had so little clue as to how the scoring of a competition worked. Congratulations to the winners, the post of Treasurer is still available if you are interested.

Meanwhile, kudos to the ladies captain for running a putting competition on newly cored greens; I note that the Mens' section were not up to that sort of challenge.

Finally, it was great to see the Ladies enjoying their "silly hats" earlier this week. Unfortunately, however, this has led to a complaint from one of our members. A Mister "P. Shaw of Timaru" has commented that his continual affectation of 'silly' headwear has never been formally acknowledged - I am happy to correct this oversight on behalf of the club (rumours that I own a hat of similar style and sophistication are of course, fake news).

Ladies Captain's Report

Hi Everyone

The year is fast coming to a close so please put the following dates in your diary.

3 November Melbourne Cup Sweepstake. We are starting golf later that day (noon) then coming to Cath's place in our glamorous hats to watch and have fun over the Melbourne Cup. Sharon will organise the 9 holers that day for golf. All welcome 6,9,18 holers. Details nearer the time.

12 November (Noon): Forum to discuss any issues etc at the clubhouse after the nine holers have played their round. Anything specific you wish to bring up please get into me before then.

17 November: Closing Day - Nancy Latimer Tray. Invite any members from other clubs.

18 November: Prize giving, drinks and dinner at the clubhouse.

Gobblers and Preen Par Nett 2: Stopped at the end of the month and will be drawn on the dinner night. So be there to win.

Trophies Please return and put in the Womens' office

Trip Away: What a fun day we had at Lower Waitaki on Thursday. Played American foursomes and the winners were Miranda Woodall and Sharon Smith.-Nett 31 with the two Catherines runners up. Hats were magnificent from our grandmothers, mothers ,to what we can just grab, what we have always wanted to wear and then there was Raelene Beatson in her roadworks hat who just looked fabulous and took out the winning hat prize. Verna second in her love golf hat, all heart. Lunch at Riverstone which didn’t disappoint. Thank you for everyone making it a great fun day and thank you Catherine for your organization of the day. Well done.

Sixes. Monday nights at 5.30ish-7.30pm .This has started and we had 17 last Monday. Encourage anyone you know who is interested in golf to come as it is the perfect opportunity. We cater for everyone no matter their ability, have clubs or not, female or male. Thank you Ange and Lois for your help last Monday. Anyone who can give a helping hand be it female or male I would love to hear from you - the only requirement is positivity and a sense of fun.

Putting:  This competition of the year is our last we are finishing off. Bad organization on my part as the greens have just been cored but it is what it is.

Sadies Sharon Smith/ Nicola Scott.

Champion of Champions Good luck to Ginny ,Cath and Kerrie who are representing us at Pleasant Point. (Silver/Bronze A) Good luck to Carol, Kath, ( Kate ) and Gerbux who are representing us at Geraldine ( Bronze B/C)

Phew , Look forward to seeing you this coming week

Cheers Cath
