...and finally
|
Well January 2021 continues to drag on interminably. It already feels like 2020 is a speck in the rear-view mirror, even though it only ended just over 3 weeks ago Still 2021 feels more hopeful, the Tangerine Tantrum Machine has gone, vaccines are being distributed globally, and we get to play golf on a regular basis, so here's to reality fulfilling that ambition. The major golf story this week was a threatening tweet from Iran with an aerial picture of the Tangerine Tantrum Machine at the top of his backswing in the shadow of a drone or or bomber. To be fair, the club looks pretty parallel to the ground, and is pointing in line with his feet, so all that practice when he was supposed to be presiding over the pandemic has obviously paid off. On a more personal note, my Mother received the first dose of the Astra-Zeneca vaccine this week, she's 79 years old and suffered no ill effects. While this is very re-assuring for me, it did remind me about one of the anti-vaxer conspiracy theories that was doing the rounds (let's face it, it probably started in the States). The upshot of it was that Covid was a hoax (obviously), and it had been started by Bill Gates in order for him to get microchips injected (via the vaccine) into everyone. The world's nerdiest philanthropist would then be able to control the world's population via said microchips (presumably not using Windows 10 - one for the IT crowd out there). Now, no-one seems to be sure why he would want to do this, but it did make me think. The roll out of the vaccine has typically started with the most vulnerable members of society, the elderly. Taking the conspiracy theory through to it's logical conclusion, therefore, would mean that Bill Gates now has remote control over an army of pensioners. I can just imagine legions of them forming up into parade order, the armored division on their mobility scooters, with the rest marching (slowly, very very slowly) down their local streets brandishing their walking sticks, admonishing the young whippersnappers who don't know just how lucky they are. The question would be whether or not Bill's programming skills would be up to allowing time for tea breaks? Would it be flexible enough to allow for frequent toilet breaks/catheter changes? Most importantly, would it be able to help them remember where they were going and why they were there in the first place? If it did, I reckon I know a few people who might be up for that. Enough nonsense for this week, I wish you all the best for 2021 and look forward to seeing you all out there soon. Stay safe and play well Steve |
