Ladies Captain 's Report
Hi All

A huge week last week, starting with Silver and Vets pennants on Monday
playing at Timaru of which neither of our teams fared well though Miriam had
a win against Daph Campbell 1 up.

Saturday / Tuesday we had the National Teams qualifying round and our team
to contest this title on Friday May 14 at Timaru is Wendy Smith , Nicola
Scott ,Janet Rae and Kathy Williams on a countback from Claire Spiers and
Cath Preen.

Thursday was our Teams Tournament which was extremely successful with 23
teams entered. A drizzly day which always makes many grizzly but we got
through the day with three Timaru teams placed and it was great to see our
new players taking part.

First:Timaru Oxtails( 120 Stablefords ) -Nicola Hayman who played like a wee
champ, Jacqui Durcan ( her first tournament with an outstanding 45
Stablefords ) Carol Rodden and Cathie Preen who happened to come in on the
odd hole .It was best three stablefords on each hole.

Third:Kotutu Timaru ( 110 Stablefords )Susan Brown, Miranda Woodall, Kath
McCreanor, Miriam Burnside.

Eighth:Par-Tee Timaru (103 Stablefords )Lois Beattie, Morna Hogan, Claire
Spiers, Lynne Stark.

Susan Brown also won the Barkers chipping contest.

Thanks must go to all my committee who worked tirelessly and well -Carol,
Lynne, Morna, Susan, Kath, Miriam, Claire, Margaret plus Jude Sharon and
Christine for holding the ship in the kitchen and raffle work.

The course amongst the drissle was in excellent condition and the greens
superb-Thanks to the green and grounds team ( men )

Cleaners- Pav & Raggie ( Check with me or Sharon if you are not sure what to
do )

Sixes Again last Monday great numbers. The more the merrier .Bring another
mate.

9 Holers This Thursday 4th March you have a shared lunch and meeting. Good
to see that you are booking your tees and Sharon can sort the draw before
she comes. It was great to see you all on Tuesday and weren't you lucky that
you had a lovely day not the drissle we had on the Thursday.!!!

Cheers Good Golfing

Cath

...and finally
Firstly, please note that the updated Mens Programme is also attached to this email

Secondly, what a week.

Like the rest of the golfing world, I was holding my breath at the news of Tiger's latest misadventure, and I am sure we are all wishing him well and a speedy recovery.

His legacy to the game of golf is difficult to quantify, but huge.  Tiger started the change from a game into an Olympic Sport played by true athletes - the motto "Citius, Altius, Fortius" (Faster, Higher, Stronger) really does now apply - you can watch the fitness regimes of the pros online now, if you are so inclined.  That stemmed from Tiger taking the game by the scruff of the neck and showing what could be achieved, and you can draw a straight line from him to the pros of today.

The other thing of note this week is the immensely frustrating return to level 2, which nobody wanted. Of course we would all like to give the idiot in Auckland a piece of our minds for being quite so stupid, but this sort of thing is always going to happen (you can't legislate for idiots, unfortunately).  We are, however, still in a fortunate position compared to so many others, and I am thinking of one person in particular

You might of missed this, but spare a thought for the man in India who was killed by a chicken.

A chicken.

I can only imagine his embarrassment at the pearly gates when someone asks him how he got there.  The fact that this was an illegal fighting cock with a 7cm knife attached to it's talons is not going to help. Saying you were killed by your cock is not better than saying you were killed by a chook.

All in all, therefore, it could be worse, we still get to play the game we love, just keep an eye out for the local bird life, you just never know what they might be up to

Stay safe and play well
