The Importance of Golf Nutrition |
Below is a link to an article about eating on the course (copy and paste the links into the address bar - I will leave a printed copy of each in the clubhouse)
https://www.golfmonthly.com/features/the-game/what-you-should-eat-during-a-round-of-golf-118300#:~:text=Around%20the%20turn%2C%20you%20should,a%20source%20of%20preferable%20carbs.
...and no, I am not on commission, although I freely admit to being a "Live to Eat" type of person as opposed to the alternative. Interestingly, the article also link to another one that, for some unknown reason, I thought might appeal to the members of the 3-putt club in particular https://www.golfmonthly.com/features/the-game/how-to-play-golf-with-a-hangover-3-67825 |

...and finally
|
Congratulations to Hideki Matsuyama for a great win on Sunday at the Masters Golf Tournament last Sunday/Monday, and a special mention to his caddie, who, once he had replaced the flag on the 18th green, doffed his cap and bowed to the course in a wonderful gesture of respect. A marked contrast to the behaviour of some of the other competitors. One player seemed to have a sudden outbreak of Tourettes Syndrome walking up to the flag, having also rammed the sam eclub into the bottom of his bag three times while his caddy looked on and stayed (wisely) silent. Another was so put out at the result of a missed putt that, in slamming it into the ground, he broke said putter and had to putt the rest of the round using a 3-wood (apparently his putting stats improved from that point on). The big golfer (Bryson DeChambeau) continued to be bemused that the golf course refused to comply with his careful computations, indeed it seemed to go out of it's way to demonstrate how irked it had been by Bryson's comments about how it was a par 67 for him, still fair play for coming back the way he did and for a very respectable finish. Other notable failures included Rory McIlroy, who is in the middle of a swing re-build, and the defending champion Dustin Johnson, both of whom missed the cut. Then there was Gary Player's son, trying to market bomb photos of his father, Jack Nicklaus and Joe Elder as the honorary starters - his complete disregard for the moment has resulted in him being banned from Augusta, and quite right too. Joe Elder was the first black professional to tee it up at Augusta, and has told tales of how he went around the course with a knife in his pocket just in case any moron tried anything. For all of the beauty and quality of the golf at Augusta, it is worth remembering that it was not all that long ago that the plantation would have been worked by slaves, considered by white-folk to be less than a human being. We would like to think that times have changed, but recent events have shown that we are not at the finish line yet, and it is only through vigilance and the courage to stand up and say something is unacceptable that will make a difference. Sorry, not really light-hearted this week, but it is a reminder that there are more important things in the world than a missed putt, and to truly enjoy the sport, it is worth having just a little perspective. On a more light-hearted note, I have not been given any details of the inaugural golf trolley grand prix, but I will endeavour to get the results and post them next week (I assume no lives were lost, but do not know whether any buggies were lost to the lake). Finally, some of you will have seen me out over the last couple of Sunday's with my 9-year old boy, enjoying the course. As he is only 9, and just starting out, I have very generously given him a 54.0 handicap, and he is playing from the junior tees (when we can find the buggers, my apologies to the Grounds team, I am the one clearing the grass of them when I do eventually find them), so he is carrying quite an advantage over his father. It is worth noting that he is as competitive his old man, and he is quite happy to make me feel older each time. Clearly, I might have given him too much of a head-start as he has consistently thrashed me, and thoroughly enjoyed the process of doing so. As a result, I have cut his handicap to 45. Perspective indeed. Have a great week, stay safe, and play well Steve |
