Covid – 19 Update

I am sure you are all looking forward to the country moving into Level 2

NZG have released the Guidelines for golf under level 2. These guidelines may be viewed at https://www.golf.co.nz/uploads/COVID-19/Golf%20and%20COVID-19%20-%208%20May%202020.pdf

The Timaru Golf Club will be adopting these guidelines.

The main thing is that golf can be played under level 2 but we have to remain vigilant and keep to the Play it Safe moto.

Under level 2 you may now play in groups as long as we keep our social distances. All players must still use the booking system when playing a casual round. The procedure for club competition draws will be advised by your club captain. The Pro Shop will be open as will the Clubhouse as it was before lockdown.

The match committees have been busy sorting out how the remainder of the season will be played and their plans may be read later in this update.

I would like to thank all our members for their patience over the past 6 weeks. During Level 3 it has been lovely seeing many of our members out enjoying the course and I hope many more of you will now take the opportunity to get back out to the course and play. Also note however that the club has taken a financial hit due to the lockdown and I ask all of our members to support the club by using the clubhouse and pro shop.

A special thank you to Graeme Brown who along with our volunteer group have worked very hard keeping the course in great condition.

I look forward to seeing you all out at the club shortly

From the Club Captain

11 May 2020

Hi to all members

Great to see golf will start to have some normality.

Thank you to all for following our lockdown rule.

With still being in Level 2 we continue to need to have contact tracing so we will continue to use Tee Bookings to cover this. This must be used every time you come to the course or the DotGolf app with check in.

From Thursday you can play with whomever you choose but still follow the 2 meter physical distancing.

On Saturdays & Wednesdays until out of level 1 we will have different starting procedures.

Wednesday tee off will be on tees 1 & 10 with 10 minute intervals from 11am until approx. 12pm.

Saturday 6 & 9 Hole Ladies will tee off between 9.45am & 10.15am.

18 Hole Ladies at 10.30am, & the Men from 11am until approx. 12.10pm

Please use Tee Bookings & if unable to, please phone the Pro Shop on 03 6882012 or myself on 027 2826892

We will be using scorecards from the kiosk. Mark your own card but check with your playing partner before handing in.

As per rules from R & A and also NZ Golf from before level 4 flagsticks must remain in hole, you can give putts of 30cm or less and rakes can be used in bunkers. It is not compulsory to use them & if your ball lands in footprints or ball marks in bunker you can place the ball.

Competition payment will be as normal in Pro Shop. Results will be published later.

The singles knockout has been cancelled this year but we will continue to have the 4 Ball Competition. Please put your names up by May 30th.

This Saturday's Comp will be a Stableford & an updated program will be sent out in the next couple of weeks,

Enjoy your Golf

Thanks Dave McEwing

Brilliant News: Golf for women starts again this Thursday 14 May see below how we will move forward.

6’s, 9 & 18 Women’s Golf

Welcome back to golf or may I say the golf under Level 2 which will resemble golf a little as we knew it. It's been fabulous to see that lots of you have been playing in your cosy bubbles and especially pleasing to see lots of the sixes out there. Sixes unfortunately came to an abrupt halt but all of those players are welcome to join the appropriate times scheduled for you below. Fabulous that we also had such a fun day away at Mt Nessing before we went into Lockdown.

Firstly I have rewritten the programme and if we remain in Level 2 or less for the rest of the season hopefully we will have at the end of the year results from our various competitions , however things may change and I'm just going to go with the flow and adapt where necessary.

The following events have been cancelled (most you are aware of this) -Pennants, Kerr Cup, Nancy McCormick, National Teams, 4BBB Knockout, Foursomes knockout. Gobblers and Preen Nett 2 Competitions will now continue to later in the year and the Pot Luck dinner for that will be rescheduled. Singles Knockout draw will go up in the next week so I will take late entries if now your plans have changed and your holiday overseas or wherever has changed, all the more the merrier, just give me a ring. Certainly looking forward to the club championships as these could be full draws. Whoop whoop.

Tee Bookings. This will be the biggest change for you all and we are doing it so we can track and trace and it is the simplest way. A lot of you are already familiar with it from level 3. Time slots have been blocked off for you to use at our usual competition times. You can book tees on your computer / phone but if you are unfamiliar with that just ring the pro shop and they will put you in one of our booked time slots or I am happy for you to ring me. I expect you to play with different members each week and to be inclusive to all. If I find you are always playing with the same people I will just go in and change you around as I believe its healthy for the club camaraderie. This of course only applies to competition days and not your casual golf.

Tuesday 10.00 - 18 Holers (4 Tee Slots 2 off 1 and 2 off 10) Enter and keep your own scores with a verbal agreement with your partner and put card in slot. Clubhouse open with social distancing.

Thursday10.00 6’s/9 holers (5 Tee Slots Off Tee 1-14 May, Tee 10 21st May and alternate sides thereafter) Enter your own scores and put card in the slot. Clubhouse open with social distancing.

Saturday 10.00 a.m 6’s / 9 Holers (4 Tee slots. Off Tee 1-14 May,Tee 10 21st May and alternate sides thereafter) All cards are then put in through the slot and will be processed. You keep your own card and score and have a verbal agreement with your partner. Clubhouse open with social distancing.

10.30 a.m 18 Holers (2 Tee Slots off Tee1) The men are hitting off from 10.45 so the same rules apply re playing in their competition or playing our competition but with them. All cards are then put in through the slot and will be processed. You keep your own card and score and have a verbal agreement with your partner. Clubhouse open with social distancing.

I look forward to seeing you all swinging your clubs happily in the next week.

Many thanks to Harvey and those who have carried the club through Lockdown.

Cheers Cath Preen

Womens Club Captain.
