Grounds Team Update
Our new Greenkeeper, Ken Hodge commences employment at the club on Monday 22nd August

This is an exciting and strategic development.  It is some years since we were able to employ a greenkeeper and the Club's thanks go to Graeme Brown and the volunteers who have filled the breach.

From where we were 8 years ago: a club with a broken irrigation system; a club with debt and little cash; a club with the course in poor condition; the change and the improvements have been transformational.

The course is now in excellent condition and survived well a very wet winter.

It's a credit to all of the volunteers who have contributed so much, especially the maintenance and the presentation of the course.

Ken Hodge will be managed by Tony Moir.  Tony will chair the Ground's Team and will report to the Committee.  We thank Tony for taking on this important role

Graeme Brown has indicated that he will assist where necessary in the transfer of duties to Ken

We all hope Graeme will continue to be part of the Greens Team as we move to a new structure

...and finally

Firstly, for those of you who don't know, I am away from Saturday, heading back to Blighty to catch up with the family, so there is going to be a restricted service over the next few weeks.  If you need anything, please give me plenty of warning as I won't be checking messages quite as often as normal.

Secondly, I would like you all to join me in welcoming Ken to the club next week, we wish him well and look forward to seeing him out on the course.

Finally, the last few Saturdays have been tricky for me with parental duties trumping golfing desires, but I did get to pop out on the range on Saturday with my two munchkins, only to witness the 8 year smacking a driver off the deck, and even having a go out of the rough - and connecting

Now this is a tricky technique for experienced golfers, even the pro's are hesitant to give it a bash, but I am convinced that she managed this ridiculous feat simply because no-one had told her that she couldn't do it

As far as she was concerned it was just another club, and the ball was there to be hit.

There's probably something in that for all of us

Naturally, I confiscated the clubs immediately and informed her in no uncertain terms that she was not to show up her old man like that ever again

She nodded meekly before proceeding to crush me in a putt-off on the practice green

Stay safe, play well, and I'll see you soon

Steve
