Well another interesting week around theworld, the US retain the President's Cup and this weekend, in a fit of pique at being left out of the team, Ryan Fox wins the Dunhill Cup in some atrocious Scottish conditions (congratulations to him)
In other news , however, there has been the remarkable sight of a small satellite colliding with a "small" asteroid
It was launched in November last year, meaning that it took over ten months to line up and take the shot (we thought pro golfers were slow)
To be fair, the target was 160 metres wide, and the satellite was travelling at 6.6km per second (or over 22,000 Kilometers per hour) and while it missed the centre of the target by 17 metres, that's not a bad shot considering the target was 11 million (!) kilometers away from Earth
I have enough trouble hitting it that close from 100 metres away
So "Yay!" to us for being so brilliant (well some of us), and we will find out in a couple of weeks whether or not it actually worked, and therefore if we can avoid, or more correctly, ensure that any asteroids, avoid us in the future
