...and finally

I will be looking forward to getting back into competition golf this week, following a hiatus caused by parental; responsibilities during the school holidays

While I respect the teaching profession, I can't help feel that they are neglecting their social responsibility in raising our children by taking ludicrous amounts of time off.  I didn't become a parent to bring up our children myself - it's bad enough the little blighters keep hanging around wanting to be fed

To make matters worse, the kids are having another day off on the ironically named: Labour Day.  A day off to nominally celebrate the working day - which seems paradoxical of you ask me

Looking up the history, it is another example of a NZ first, when a carpenter in Wellington called, Samuel Parnell, won the right to an 8 hour working day (note this did not apply to all industries until the 20th Century).  The first Labour Day was 50 years later, and attended by an elderly Mr Parnell, and in 1899 it was made a public holiday instead of the 8 hour day becoming a legal right for all workers.

It was designated as a Monday holiday from 1910. and the day was originally a day of celebrtations and parades, but nowadays is just another public holiday seemingly designed to irritate parents.

Maybe I'll just sneak out while they're not looking

Stay safe, play well, and if you are joing the throng heading away this weekend, safe travels

I will see you out there sometime soon

Steve
